Sue Barr - EveryBody yoga
EveryBody Yoga
Thank you for taking the time to find out about yoga classes in Diamond Harbour. My name is Sue and I have lived in Charteris Bay since 2020. You may have seen me walking my large fluffy dog (a scruffy standard poodle) as you travel in to Christchurch. I provide 2 small group yoga classes in the green room on Thursday evenings. My background is in Special Education and I have had a long personal and professional interest in providing educational programmes that support individual differences and needs.
My yoga classes continue this professional journey as I plan and develop each class so it is valuable for the learners in front of me. Having practiced yoga on and off for over 20 years, I trained as a Hatha (traditional) yoga teacher at the beginning of 2023, when I retired.
I have always had a passion for physical activity; over the years being a keen tramper, rock climber, mountain biker and gardener. I love the physical and emotional benefits of yoga, and am passionate about providing affordable classes that support physical capability within a mindful movement context.
Each class includes a skill learning component as well as activities to support mindfulness, balance, flexibility, breath-work and strength.
I welcome learners of all ages and stages into my classes (maximum of 8 learners) and use props to support accessibility.
I can also provide private sessions in my home for 1-3 people on request.
I’d love to discuss whether my classes might be a good fit for you.

Katie Cambridge - Dance therapy
Hi, I'm Katie — a freestyle dancer based in beautiful Diamond Harbour.
For as long as I can remember, I've been dancing to the rhythm of my own body. Freestyle dance, to me, is a way of channelling the music’s energy, expressing what words can’t, and exploring movement through pure improvisation.
What I love most is the emotional connection between music and motion — that moment when the body responds instinctively and truthfully. Freestyle dance isn’t about perfection; it’s about freedom, presence, joy, and the courage to move exactly as you are.
I invite you to join our weekly freestyle dance sessions — a welcoming, supportive community of movers who each bring their own story to the floor. Together, we dance to process, to connect, to heal, and most of all, to celebrate being alive in our bodies. We have a lot of fun and most join for a cuppa and chats afterwards.
One-on-one sessions available
to help uncover the root causes of what's holding you back.
Using muscle testing, subconscious access, and emotional clearing techniques, we gently identify and release stored patterns — supporting your journey toward greater clarity, freedom, and well-being.
Custom playlist curation for events, gatherings, or sessions — carefully crafted to match the tone, flow, and intention of your space.

Yogatherapyworks is a Christchurch, and Diamond Harbour based health care service for anyone seeking better health and vitality. Yoga therapy is a 121 approach that encompasses many complementary modalities and practices from medical and yogic sciences to evaluate body-mind health from physical, psychological, emotional and energetic perspectives.
This offers a supportive, educational system that can assist you to understand and minimise, if not eliminate, pain, discomfort or ‘unease’ that can develop from unhelpful movement, breath, psychological, or lifestyle habits, and existing health conditions.
This may include movement, breathwork, bodywork, nervous system support, body-mind therapy or manual therapy - It doesn’t have to include ‘yoga postures’ and you don’t have to be ‘flexible’ to benefit.
This adaptive blend recognises that health is more than the absence of disease …as such, yoga therapy offers a responsive, individualised approach that can support, rather than replace conventional approaches to health care.

Jenny Malcolm - EFT practitioner
Jenny Malcolm
I facilitate mental, physical and emotional wellbeing using the evidence based technique of Tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques).
The first 3-4 decades were focused on a farming career in both dairy and sheep/beef industries, in various locations across NZ. During this time many challenging life events were encountered including loss of a child, giving birth to 5 children in 4 years, bouts of depression and more recently the dissolution of a 30yr relationship.
Finally brought to my knees, no longer able to keep running by being busy, the amazing technique of EFT tapping allowed me to acknowledge and release suppressed emotions, related to these life challenges.
Suppressed emotions can show up in a variety of ways, and the symptoms are often ignored or not fully understood. EFT is a gentle and evidence based mind/body approach combining acupressure with talk therapy.
Are you ready for relief and freedom from your life challenge(s)
I invite you to contact me for a free chat

Denise Robins - Harbour yoga
Denise Robins
BSW; PG Dip Counselling; Cert Life coaching; RYT level 2; certified strength and balance trainer.
Having retired from social work Denise began teaching yoga in Diamond Harbour in 2024. This was a natural progression due to her lifelong interest in wholistic health care, movement and nutrition.
While living in Darwin in 2012 a passion was ignited for all things yoga and the benefits from regular practice provided motivation to integrate a yoga practice into daily life.
In 2017 Denise completed 200 hours yoga teaching training and began relieving yoga teachers in mid Canterbury. Her move to Diamond Harbour provided further opportunities with all things yoga.
As a relatively late comer to yoga, Denise understands the limitations and changes to the bodies of aging humans. As our body awareness grows and we learn to listen what’s going on inside, we build the resilience and confidence sufficient to respond to life’s challenges with grace.
Classes are a blend of Hatha, Vinyassa style flow and Yin yoga and are designed to cater for all levels and include movement that strengthen bodies while growing a deep sense of inner awareness and connection.
Throughout 2025 4 classes per week have been offered. This includes one, adapted session where participants are invited to sit or hold onto the wall or chair. The aim is to improve strength, balance and reduce the risk from falls.
All levels of yogi are welcome.

Andy Scott - Pathway physiotherapy
I moved to the area from the UK 6 years ago with my partner Kate, a Lincoln girl. I set up my own business here: Pathway Physiotherapy, now working out of one of the new rooms at the Diamond Harbour Medical Centre Mondays and Wednesdays. I also do a clinic at The Well Studios over by The Tannery in Christchurch, Tuesdays and Thursdays. ACC and private appointments, have a look at the website for more details: http://www.pathwayphysiotherapy.nz
I love it here, what a beautiful spot with a great community! I’m so happy to have some climbing on my doorstep, the stunning coastal paths, cold plunges in the bay, kayaking and sailing, as well as a deck to sit on and a beach down the road called Paradise – life is good! I’ve been amazed by the amount of local clubs and events going on: yoga, tai-chi, golf, tennis, bowls, walking groups, drama, singing, dancing next to trees, live music festivals, mindfulness and more. You guys have got it going on! So many opportunity for us all to engage with some skills old and new, connect with friends and family old and new, build our favourite version of ourselves... Maybe I’m setting myself a challenge there: time to sort that dinghy out! ( Anyone got a trolley for sale that would fit a small 2-man boat?!! )
My goal with physiotherapy is to guide people towards a better possible version of themselves, in body and mind. Whether it’s an injury or a conscious decision to manage a long-standing issue that brings somebody in, I like to sit down and get to know each person, be guided by their story.
Where are they in terms of posture, function and mindset? Where are we trying to go and why? This could be controlling pain, smiling a little more, basic mobility and independence, returning to work, getting back to our ways of play, or pushing harder for a big challenge…
Which skills and habits would be useful in their toolbox for this journey to a better place?
How can we progress and keep the changes happening?
Yoga, qigong, pilates, strength and conditioning, breathwork and activation massage: all things that can allow you to regulate your system and move better. I’m rarely short on ideas: from hydrotherapy to walking and dancing – something will fit, something will work, it just needs to be the right thing for today…
This approach takes a little more time, so I do longer sessions: 90 minutes for initial assessments, 45-60 minutes for follow ups. This sets us up for some better, longer-lasting results, giving you the skills to get you where you want to go.
Sessions include breath and movement assessments, massage for activation and release, joint mobilisation, movement therapy, relaxation strategies and performance coaching. Something for every body and mind to grow with, younger or older…
9am-6:30pm Mondays and Wednesdays at Diamond Harbour Medical Centre
9am-6:30pm Tuesday and Thursday at The Well Sudios at The Tannery, Christchurch
ACC and private appointments (10% discounts on private sessions for over 65’s, unemployed and students )

Dianne Sowerby - Yoga, Feldenkrais, Swimming
Diane Sowerby. Zed
Active and Curious. Always looking for another friend, another adventure, another learning experience.
Hi, I am sitting at the computer with my attention drawn to the harbour view. My happy place! the waters of Whakaraupo.
I have lived in and around the harbour for 20 years, with a 5-year break in Boulder, Colorado and 4 years in Christchurch to support my kids at high school.
Moving: through sports, outdoor activities and creative somatics, forms the core of my world.
I started life in Taupo doing the normal Kiwi kid stuff. Playing every sport available, then following my father to the bush and out in boats.
PE school in Otago was followed by work at the YMCA and other Wellington fitness facilities.
Canada called, so off I biked for 6 months of discovery.
Back home in NZ, climbing, kayaking and caving ruled my weekends as I completed Teachers College and worked for the next 9 years in many parts of NZ at a variety of schools.
Colin and I got together in 1998, and after 1999 in the UK, we settled in Christchurch.
While bringing up the kids, I have worked part time in many areas, including: Outdoor Ed, Children's movement classes. Yoga teaching, Teaching Awareness through Movement classes and seeing private clients for Functional Integration lessons.
Our Kids are at Otago studying.
At the moment I work as a child care support worker at Cholmondeley, teach Yoga and Feldenkrais method classes and private sessions, and volunteer at Hohepa doing Feldenkrais and swimming. I also teach swimming at Diamond Harbour and Governors Bay

Mareille Stoppel - Somatic Experiencing
My name is Mareile Stoppel, I am excited to offer Somatic Experiencing, a 'body centred trauma therapy' in the Bay, at Te Ara Sophia in Opawa Christchurch and online for the wider community.
My work is based on Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy. This trauma treatment can release stress in the body and reduce emotional blockage, allowing the person to become whole, stable and healthy again.
I am also trained in EMDR and SRR and can combine both modalities to offer specific trauma treatment including for complex and developmental trauma.
I offer a warm and safe environment and like to engage with people of all walks of life. I support people to identify their strengths and to discover their unique potentials. I prefer working alongside people at their pace, valuing their own experience and expertise.
I offer a creative approach to supporting people to explore life, face their challenges and blocks, and find new perspectives.
I draw on a variety of therapeutic interventions including Narrative, Solution-Focused, Creative Arts and Sand-tray Therapy.
I have been working as a counsellor in agencies, schools and private practice with a diverse range of people. My particular interest is working with individuals and families to overcome trauma.
I am fully trained and experienced as a Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapist including working with developmental and complex trauma. For more than 20 years I have worked as an ACC registered counsellor in sexual abuse support services. This has heightened my awareness and sharpened my focus for social justice and respect. My long standing work at the Chch Rudolf Steiner School as a teacher and guidance counsellor has privileged me to work with young people and support them in their developmental process of transitioning to adulthood.
I am an experienced supervisor within my professional body and I mentor counselling students in training. As a group facilitator I am very involved in Otautahi Trauma sensitive Yoga classes. I have also offered training on issues of Adolescence, Non Violent Communication, Self-awareness and Awakening to personal growth.
